“I know you want to get back for your father’s Albaka,” Zuba said. “If you hadn’t said
anything I would have. It’s a feast fit for a king!”
“And a few dusty vampire hunters,” Omar said.
Cane and Raki spoke at once. “Hungry vampire hunters!” They all laughed.
Omar knelt down by the armored tiger. He used his hand to snarl the mouth and view the long,
sharp saber teeth. He reached into his cloak and removed a jewel-handled knife and a wisp of thick
golden twine.
Zuba stared. “What are you going to do with that?”
“Make a gift . . . for a tigress!” Omar smiled and looked to the north. The great towers of
Timbuktu glowed in the distance by the firelight of the city celebration. The four riders stood
statuesque under the stars like an immortal testament to adventure, their great robes billowing in
the wind.
