vampire fell back onto the linen and relished the feel of it. “What is my punishment? Shall I be

tied up and whipped? Will you chain me to a post again and have your way with me?”

The queen looked at her blithely but did not answer. Sygnosis rose up.

“What is it? Do the stars also displease thee tonight?” she asked.

GoGo’s mouth was smiling but her eyes were not. Sygnosis began to sing.

                       “Pour me your wine

Let not your grapes stay too long on the vine

                       Fill my senses

                       With your incenses

                       Oh my love thy beauty

Steals the sun from the morning

                       Paints the moonlight never ending

Makes the earth give birth to violets

Shines so bright it pales the vain and jealous stars.”

The vampire twirled ethereally as she sang; her delicate vestment caught the air and

seemed to lift her between verses like the wings of a butterfly.

“Protecting thee, a thousand beasts I’d brave

Though my feet are free to flee

                       My heart’s enslaved

                       Say yes, my love

Dress me in thy love so fair

That dark angels braid thy hair.”

The queen turned her head away as she wept.

“Have I offended thee?” asked Sygnosis.
