Chapter 10

                                                     Ghosts of the Sahara

For the heavenly bodies, the charge of the queen’s cavaliers upon the Moroccan caravan was the

night’s unexpected entertainment and they crowded the sky over the Sahara with anticipation.

The sand sprayed into a large dust cloud as the warrior queen and her fearsome revengers

rode across the desert, their capes billowing in the night. The horses’ hooves rumbled the ground

like low-pitched thunder. Sygnosis rode next to Omar on a Stygian steed. Through the sand cloud,

she looked like a white witch riding black smoke. She flipped her left leg over the saddle and

released the reins of her horse in mid-gallop.

“What are you doing?” shouted Omar.

                       “I’m faster on foot!”

Sygnosis jumped from her saddle and landed in the sand without missing a stride. She ran

barefoot with her sword extended, passing the horses as if they were standing still. The warriors

watched in utter shock as she streaked ahead of them, transforming into the fanged vampire of

               legend, the Algul of Africa.

“Are you going to let that vampress show you up?” said Sooth.

                       Omar looked over at him.

“Did you think your training was over?” Sooth challenged. “Show these humans what an

               Azulite can do!”

At that, Omar leaped from his horse and streaked through the sand with his sword high.

His warriors looked on in awe.
