“Well at least the mighty. The high are sleeping it off in the guest quarters,” said Kanja in
a clear and regal voice—standing right next to her. GoGo jumped—dropped the mirror and it
broke.
“Kanja?” she said in utter shock. He was still fully robed. She turned to look back across
the room at the king’s soul—but he was gone.
“Your robes . . . but you removed—” GoGo, in shock, quickly feigned anger. “You know I
don’t like it when you sneak up on me!” she snapped.
“Still in a foul mood I see.”
“I am always in a foul mood, my husband and need thy rod of correction.”
But the sensual confession was only a cover. The queen was deeply disturbed and
confused.
“Hear my tongue of correction first,” replied Kanja. “You were rude to the Istari
ambassador tonight.”
“Belly Pot was a lying, four-faced warthog.”
“Was?”
“Is,” she said with a benign smile.
“You threw the first stone by demeaning his gift.”
“I am the queen. All stones in thy kingdom are mine to throw. The fat man insulted the
crown.”
“You mean by that silly comment?” Kanja asked.
“If it were so petty,” she said. “His insult was presenting those heads as if they were truly
black slavers bent on treachery against you.”
“I don’t understand.”
“They were Belly Pot’s own slaves, decapitated to deceive you, my king.”
