Pasha,” said Zuba then groaned in pain.
“You are injured.” Sooth walked over and attended his shoulder.
“The king should have known the Moroccans would have been emboldened after the Battle
of Tondibi!” Daka said, but quickly caught himself. “Forgive me, my prince, that was not my
place to say.”
Omar waved his hand. “No need. My father knew the Moroccans had dreams of conquest,
but he was so worried about what others thought he didn’t stand up when he should have. He
rewarded his enemies and punished his friends. I loved my father and I will honor him in death,
but if the queen had balls she would have been king.”
Raki and several royal guards entered with a prisoner. The man’s face was bloody and
beaten from Raki’s interrogation.
“Tell him!” Raki demanded.
“Queen GoGo, I saw her,” said the prisoner.
“Where?” Omar said.
“The jail.”
Omar walked over to the prisoner. “Is my mother alive?”
“She was when they brought her in.”
The prince nodded to Daka who stepped up swiftly and killed the man with his sword.
Omar looked down coldly at the dead man. “We fight from the shadows now.”
