Sooth knelt humbly before her. He dipped his head deeply and turned his eyes down to the

               ground.

“Thou art my queen,” he said. “My life is in thy hands. Say the word and I will take it.” He

unsheathed a curved dagger from his cloak and placed it on the ground before him. GoGo walked

over to Sooth. She bent down and picked it up. “Silence is betrayal! You should have told me!”

Sooth did not move a muscle or say a word.

“I always wondered why I never saw you eat solid food. For the last weeks, since our

disgrace, I noticed for the first time that you did not sleep. You attended my son every moment of

               the day and night.”

Tense moments of mistrust passed quickly. Sooth had been her loyal friend and GoGo

knew that Omar would be dead now if it weren’t for him.

                       “Rise,” she commanded.

                       Sooth rose to his feet.

“If I were to thrust this dagger into your body would you die?”

                       “No, my queen.”

Without warning, she thrust the dagger into Sooth’s heart! He didn’t move a muscle.

                       She gasped again.

“I can kill myself, but you cannot kill me, unless you behead me or burn me.”

GoGo placed her hand on the hilt and removed it from his chest. “Show me the wound.”

Sooth opened his cloak and unfastened his shirt. The dagger wound was there but in

moments, it vanished before her eyes.

“Your teeth, let me see them!” GoGo said.

Sooth placed his fingers to his lips and lifted them.

“They are human. I don’t understand,” GoGo said.

“May I have the blade?” Sooth asked.

GoGo handed it to him. Sooth looked around the cave. He saw a rat scurrying against the

cave wall. With the speed of a striking snake, he darted forward snagging the rat in his bare hand.
