“No one can see it now,” Sygnosis said. “But it is still there, on your heart. Only you can

               make it go away.”

GoGo was filled with self-adulation. A rush of tide flowed through her as if the scar was a

dam in the river of her womanhood, for years holding back the full force of her emotions.

                       “I was ashamed,” GoGo said.

Sygnosis stood next to her in the mirror and pulled her robe aside revealing the strange

“NORN” brand above her pale breast.

“All females have scars,” she said then turned and walked away.

“What does Norn mean?” GoGo asked.

Once again she did not answer.

GoGo followed Sygnosis flushed with curiosity. “The wounds from the shackles healed

within moments. Why does the brand not heal?”

“I will not let it heal.”

                       “How can you stop it?”

                       “You don’t want to know.”

Sygnosis walked over to the large sumptuous bed arrayed with silks and animal skins. She

               stroked the finery.

“Why is there a bed here? I do not sleep.”

“Do you never lay in repose?”

“So it is here for my repose?”

                       Their eyes met.

“Have you ever had . . . a queen?” GoGo asked.

“Had? As in known?” Sygnosis replied.

“Yes,” GoGo said and walked closer. “Known.”

                       Sygnosis smiled seductively.

“The way Samson knew Delilah? The way Antony knew Cleopatra?” she said.

“The way Paris knew Helen of Troy,” said the queen.
