than blood, like liquid stained glass. She forced her azulin to flow into Omar’s mouth. His lips
began to move, then his tongue. Everyone gasped at this sign of life.
“Omar!” GoGo said.
He swallowed dryly, and then to GoGo’s shock, he suckled—like a baby at first but then
like a man. His hand rose and held Sygnosis’ breast. He bit down hard. Sygnosis moaned in
anguish. Omar’s eyes opened then rolled back as the powerful azulin took effect. He sucked

daggers to attack.

“No . . . no, no,” she said tenderly. “Come back. Come back to me.”
Tears filled Sygnosis’ eyes as she looked at GoGo. The vampire’s voice was sweet now,
almost begging.
“Da’am amro de’em?”
Sooth was shocked at the question. He looked at GoGo.
“She said—”
“Tell her yes,” GoGo said without hesitation.
“But—”
“Tell her!”
“Kai, Sygnosis, kai.” Sooth gave GoGo a last look of hesitation before uttering the next
words as if to warn her. But her expression was unbending and committed. “GoGo, amro da’am.”
