“Because the Astral Realm is like nothing you could imagine,” said Sygnosis. “Byzantium
is awash in indigo from the purple light of the Rune Star that never sets. Great domes and spires of
stone arrogance and glass symmetry adorn the city, and fantasy castles of vampire lordship crown
the mountains. Sparth valley is so green it is jade, and the flowers are spores of antara, colors that
do not exist on earth. The Bay of Byzmuth is azure blue; byzmuth is liquid manna to the vampires.
We need no blood to live, and we walk in quiescence. Compared to your world, Astral Byzantium
is an opium dream, a netherworld . . . haunted by beauty.”
GoGo was silently transfixed inside the vision of the vampire imperium. She surrendered.
“You win,” she whispered.
At that, GoGo reached over onto the rock bank of the grotto and removed a metal flask
from her leather pouch. She handed it to Sygnosis.
“This is something I wish you to have,” said GoGo.
“A flask . . .” said Sygnosis.
“Drink,” said GoGo.
Sygnosis twisted off the cap—looked curiously at GoGo, and then she drank. The contents
made the vampire close her eyes and shiver. She looked at GoGo with surprise.
“Blood,” said Sygnosis.
“My blood,” said GoGo. “Drink it all.”
The vampire drank. Blood trickled down her chin. When she finished, GoGo gently took
the flask from her—sat it on the rocks, and then showered Sygnosis with soft kisses. As sunset fell
into night, GoGo fell into Sygnosis’ arms and gave the vampire her prize.
